RCR Hires New Executive Director
Press Release: Routt County Riders Hires New Executive Director
Longtime local will take the reins from Laraine Martin after 6 years, continuing a decades-long legacy of advocating for cyclists in Northwest Colorado with fresh energy.
Steamboat Springs, CO, 9/17/25:
Routt County Riders (RCR), a nonprofit organization focused on all things cycling-related in Northwest Colorado, is happy to announce that Rob Peterson will join the staff team in fall 2025 as the new Executive Director (ED). Peterson has served on the RCR Board of Directors for over 10 years, first joining in December 2013. He will step into this new role after 13 years at Big Agnes, where he most recently served as Partnership and Marketing Specialist. His professional experience over the past two decades has given him an extensive knowledge of the outdoor industry, both locally and nationwide.
“Rob’s involvement with outdoor advocacy through his time at Big Agnes has certainly impacted his ability to take this next big step with RCR,” says Laraine Martin, current RCR ED. “He has grown so much during his time as a Board Member, and is clearly ready to level up. I very much look forward to working closely with him this fall as we complete the leadership transition.” Martin is stepping aside as ED in order to pursue new career pathways after 6 productive and exciting years at the helm of the organization. During her tenure, she has led RCR into a period of programmatic and staff growth while building important relationships with partners and local land managers.
With a great deal of positive momentum, Peterson will usher RCR into 2026 and beyond while advancing the goals of the current 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. This plan focuses on removing barriers to cycling for recreation and transportation, collaborating with decision-makers to increase infrastructure and connectivity for cyclists, and improving safety for local riders.
“We all know and love Rob’s consistent passion for all things bikes,” says Todd Givnish, RCR Board Member. “Rob has shown he can go from vision to execution in bringing our community together to achieve our goals. We are lucky to have him stepping in to bring RCR forward.”
Martin and Peterson will work together from October through the fall, gradually transitioning tasks and responsibilities.
