2025 Photo Contest Winners

Luke Ross (shot with help from Jason Aronson)

This fall, Luke and Jason found themselves in a classic Buff Pass thunderstorm while out on a ride. The chances of Luke’s camera getting any use was probably feeling slim. Fortunately for these two, these thunderstorms tend to disappear just as quickly as they appear. “Once we escaped the rain and lightning we finally had a chance to bust out the camera and get a moody photo enhanced by the storm clouds… I set up the entire shot—camera, settings, composition, and I did all the editing—but since I’m in the photo, I had my buddy press the shutter for me. I’m thankful for groups like Routt County Riders to help support and maintain trails like Buff for generations to come.” Thanks for this epic shot – a well-deserved first place in our 2025 Community Photo Contest!

Matt Helm

Steamboat’s newest trail, Highway To Hell on Emerald Mountain, has already captured the hearts of many dedicated riders – including longtime local Matt Helm: “Anyone that knows me would say I just want to be on my bike as much as possible. That is true!!! However, my favorite time to ride is sunset. I knew there was probably nobody behind me this particular evening, and tried to capture the new yet iconic bridge on Highway to Hell. This place is so incredible, and I try to share its beauty as much as possible!” We always appreciate your sharing Matt!

Laura Rust (Riders sons Jamin and Shilo)

On a nice fall day, you can find Laura Rust and her two sons Jamin (7) and Shilo (3) exploring their backyard on Buff Pass. In this adorable photo, Jamin is showing his little bro the ropes on Spring Creek Trail. “The kids love riding this trail top to bottom after a lap on Fiddlehead. We love how friendly our single-track trails are for kids and riders of all levels.” Keep it up kiddos, and you’ll take our Strava segments in no time.
