SUMMARY:Ride the Cog (Hayden)

After Labor Day\, there will be price increases\, so go ahead and get in soon with one of these four routes: \n20-mile NEW Breeze Basin Breezer: 19.1 miles\, dirt and paved\, for someone who wants a shorter ride with some great scenery south of Hayden. Click here to see the map and stats about the 20-mile route. \n26.5-mile Mud Ride: 26.5 miles mostly unmaintained gravel and dirt roads with up to a 13% grade. Click here to see the map and stats about the 26.5-mile route. \n31-mile Gravel Grinder: 31 miles paved and maintained gravel roads with up to a 9.8% grade. Click here to see the map and stats about the 31-mile route. \n43-mile Combined Ride: For the truly hearty rider– 43 miles combining the best of both the Gravel Grinder and Mud Ride with up to 11.5% grades. Click here to see the map and stats about the 43-mile route. \n \n \nThe beneficiary\nWelcome to the Hayden Heritage Center! Located in the historic Moffat Railroad Depot Building since 1972\, the Museum (established in 1964) has exhibits on local area history from cowboying and homesteading to coal mining and farming. Experience the authenticity of the homesteaders and the lives they carved out in this rugged corner of Northwest Colorado. \n \nThe Museum is home to the Leslie Memorial Research Library\, a fantastic resource for research whether it is subject based or genealogical. We have numerous books on local and regional history\, as well as various subjects including Railroad\, Quarter Horse Collection\,  out of print books\, unpublished manuscripts\, family files as well as subject catalogue files and more! You can also access the Museum collection database and look at the Museums wonderful collection of photos at one of the two public computer stations (with internet access) in the research library\, which is located conveniently on the first floor.  \nThe Museum has a gift shop with books on local\, regional and Colorado history with children’s books and toys as well as unique gifts. \nThe Hayden Granary is the only existing grain elevator in Routt County. In its heyday\, the elevator bolstered the local agricultural economy\, providing many services and goods to area farmers. Today the grain elevator remains as an important representation of the agricultural\, economic and engineering history of early twentieth-century Routt County. As one of the last remaining wooden bin elevators on the western slope of Colorado\, the agricultural heritage of the facility demonstrates the importance of farming and ranching within the Yampa Valley. With concern towards the uncertainty of the Granary’s future\, the Delaney family purchased the Granary and Yampa Valley Feeds in December 2008 and pursued local\, state and national historic registration status to officially recognize the importance of the facility. “Historic Hayden Granary Inc.” was formed in the Fall of 2019 and the Trustees intend to activate the space through community gatherings\, art\, food\, beverage and events as a way to share the extraordinary history along with preserving it for future generations. \nYour ride registration helps support the museum and granary in their continuing mission to preserve the history of Routt County and Hayden\, Colorado \nLearn more about Ride the Cog 2021 here!
