SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Emerald Mountain Epic Training Challenge #1
DESCRIPTION:New this year\, The Emerald Mountain Epic brings you themed monthly training challenges to encourage getting the most out of yourself!  Each month\, we will celebrate the history of Emerald Mountain in Steamboat Springs as it relates to the spirit of the Honey Stinger Emerald Mountain Epic.  As such\, the theme for our first challenge is: \nNEW BEGINNINGS \nSTEAMBOAT SPRINGS \nIn 1875\, James H. Crawford ventured from Hot Sulphur Springs to the current day Yampa Valley.  He was a Civil War veteran seeking a new beginning with his family\, and he believed he would find it along the banks of the Yampa River.  For a $200 fee\, Crawford filed for the first land patent in what would become Steamboat Springs.  His land patent was granted in 1879 for 160 acres\, a portion of which spanned to the base of current day Howelsen Hill on Emerald Mountain.  Hence\, as Crawford and his family started anew\, they became forever known as the founders of Steamboat Springs\, Colorado. \n2021 \nA year ago\, we rang in a new decade with hope and optimism for what laid ahead.  Little did we know what 2020 would bring.  While challenges still persist\, there is reason to believe that 2021 will be a year to celebrate positivity\, hope and even the mere act of celebration!  January of 2021 can be your chance to hit the reset button and revisit the goals you had set 12-months ago that may not have been fulfilled for reasons beyond your control. \nEMERALD MOUNTAIN EPIC \n11th Annual?… 10th Event?… 2nd Annual?… 1st In-Person?… Depends on how you look at it!  The “Steamboat Stinger” was founded by Honey Stinger in 2011 as a two-day mountain bike and trail running race showing off the exceptional singletrack trails in Steamboat Springs\, Colorado.  Over the next decade\, the race would attract thousands of participants annually\, and the proceeds would benefit two exceptional local non-profit organizations in Routt County Riders and Partners in Routt County.  After hosting the race for a ninth time in 2019\, Honey Stinger decided to hand the reins of the event over to its longtime beneficiaries.  Hence\, a name change was required\, and the Honey Stinger Emerald Mountain Epic era started in 2020!  Though the event management and the name had changed\, the mission remained the same – to host a first-class racing experience showcasing one of Colorado’s best trail networks.  Whether it was seen as the tenth continuation of the “Stinger” or the first “Emerald Mountain Epic”\, we wanted participants to leave with the feeling that they had participated in a race that provided an unmatched experience.  Then\, 2020 became\, well\, 2020…  As with most events across the nation\, we spent many hours planning and then revising plans to both keep up with ever changing health orders and with the hopes that we could host an in-person race.  Ultimately\, for the safety of our participants and our community\, we chose to switch to a virtual platform.  So\, 2021 is our new beginning\, and we couldn’t be more excited to announce the Honey Stinger Emerald Mountain Epic returns on August 7th & 8th for a premier in-person race event (we hope) AND a virtual fundraising run/ride! \nJANUARY CHALLENGE \nEarn ONE Entry | Log 2 Hours 1 Minute of training in the month to honor the 2nd Annual / 1st In-Person Emerald Mountain Epic \nEarn TWO Entries | Log 11 Hours 10 Minutes of training in the month to honor the 11th Annual / 10th In-Person race on Emerald \nEarn THREE Entries | Log 20 Hours 21 Minutes of training in the month to honor the promise and optimism of 2021 \nEarn FIVE Entries | Log 1\,879 Minutes of training in the month to honor the first land grant on Emerald Mountain in 1879 \nJANUARY PRIZE \nOn February 1st\, as we open registration for this year’s event\, we will draw one winner of a FREE ENTRY into the 2021 Honey Stinger Emerald Mountain Epic!

SUMMARY:FULL: Trail Work Day - DRY LAKE TRAILHEAD\, Buffalo Pass
DESCRIPTION:Updated: You guys are amazing!! We are officially full for tomorrow! Thank you all for your interest\, and if you didn’t make it for this one\, please join us on either 9/16 for a trash pick up day\, or on 9/26 at Beall Trailhead! Information can be found here: https://routtcountyriders.org/events/ \n\n\nCHANGE OF TIME AND LOCATION: Please read!\nWe have heard from the USFS that the wind event this week has impacted many of our favorite trails\, making them virtually impassable. The updated event photo is from Flash of Gold yesterday.\n\nOur new priority is cutting out and clearing trail\, however if we have enough people\, we still may send a crew up to work on the last short section of Buffalo Billy’s. Flexibility will be the theme for tomorrow.\n\nIf you have a chainsaw and appropriate PPE\, please bring it.\n\nVolunteers should have: long pants and long sleeved shirts. Work gloves. Eye and ear protection if working near saws. Hard hats if you have them. Boots.\n\nNo dogs\, please. We love your pups\, but having them out on a day where several people are running chainsaws is a recipe for disaster. Parents of young children\, please use extra caution when bringing them.\n\nWork crews will be divided into small groups under 10 people to ensure proper social distancing. Please BYO everything – water\, snacks\, a face covering\, work gloves\, eye protection\, sunscreen and bug repellent.\n\nFreshies will be providing lunch!

SUMMARY:Trail Work Day\, Buffalo Billy's\, Buffalo Pass
DESCRIPTION:*Sign up in advance!! \nWe are heading back out to Buffalo Billy’s\, a several-miles-long section of new trail designed to connect from the bridge on middle Flash of Gold to the top of Grouse. The trail meanders through high alpine meadows and across rocky outcrops that will make for a fun and flowy build. \nVolunteers can find their own way to arrive at the worksite on Saturday morning. We will meet at a campsite on Rocky Flats (9-ish miles from downtown\, 4-ish miles from Dry Lake up the Buff Pass Road) to grab tools and get going at 9:00 AM. Keep an eye out for the RCR Banner! \nThere is a good amount of parking but it’s certainly not unlimited\, so plan ahead and snag someone in your “home unit” to carpool with – or have your family drop you and your bike off to work and ride down at the end of the day. Lastly\, you can pedal up if you’re feeling hardcore! If you drive\, keep in mind that the road is very bumpy and rutted – recommended 4wd and a good amount of clearance. It takes 30 minutes or so to get here from Dry Lake by car \n**ADVANCE SIGNUP REQUIRED**\nhttps://forms.gle/ZPTbSNRb9f2CQYZc7 \nAdditionally\, participants must sign their e-waivers in advance:\nhttps://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5ec58dfe143bf/web/ \nPlease sign up by the Friday prior (8/21) at 3:00 PM to guarantee that you are receiving updates and communications about the work day and that we have planned space for you! \nWork crews will be divided into small groups under 10 people to ensure proper social distancing. SUMMARY:Tour de Steamboat
DESCRIPTION:The Tour de Steamboat is an annual bicycle event that brings together 1\,200 cyclists for a one-day ride through beautiful Northwest Colorado. We host three different road ride routes—26\, 46\, and 66. We also host 2 gravel routes\, a 100 mile\, and a new 50 Mile route. See our Routes page for more details. There is something for riders of all ages and abilities. We are a non-competitive event\, and participants are encouraged to ride at their own pace and enjoy the majestic scenery in our part of the world! We offer superb aid stations\, support\, and end of the ride barbecue and craft beer garden. \nAll proceeds from the Tour de Steamboat go directly to our beneficiary non-profits. \nThe Tour de Steamboat is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit entity with its entire focus on raising money for local\, Routt County community non-profit organizations. These beneficiary agencies provide staff to plan and market the event\, implement additional fundraising mechanisms\, and assist with event operations. The beneficiaries are also committed to paying it forward. Every year\, the beneficiary non-profits choose other local beneficiary organizations to receive a portion of the event proceeds. Last year\, the Tour de Steamboat beneficiaries granted $5\,000 from the proceeds of the event between four other local organizations: SOROCO Preschool for playground equipment\, The Town of Oak Creek for school-aged children programming and the Steamboat Springs Community Assistance Fund critical incident support service.

SUMMARY:Trail Work Day - Buffalo Billy's\, Buffalo Pass
DESCRIPTION:*Sign up in advance!! \nWork will occur on Buffalo Billy’s\, a several-miles-long section of new trail designed to connect from the bridge on middle Flash of Gold to the top of Grouse. The trail meanders through high alpine meadows and across rocky outcrops that will make for a fun and flowy build. \nVolunteers can find their own way to arrive at the worksite on Saturday morning. We will meet at Rocky Flats (9.6 miles from downtown\, 4.7 miles from Dry Lake up the Buff Pass Road) to grab tools and get going at 9:00 AM. Our partners with USFS will try to snag a campsite for staging…keep an eye out. It takes 30 minutes or so to get here from Dry Lake by car \n**ADVANCE SIGNUP REQUIRED**\nhttps://forms.gle/ZPTbSNRb9f2CQYZc7 \nAdditionally\, participants must sign their e-waivers in advance:\nhttps://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5ec58dfe143bf/web/ \nPlease sign up by the Friday prior (7/10) at NOON to guarantee that you are receiving updates and communications about the work day and that we have planned space for you! \nWork crews will be divided into small groups under 10 people to ensure proper social distancing. Please BYO everything – water\, snacks\, a face covering\, work gloves\, eye protection\, sunscreen and bug repellent.
