SUMMARY:Last Day for Public Comment - Mad Rabbit Trails Project
DESCRIPTION:RCR has played an instrumental role in the progression of the Mad Rabbit Trails Project\, enriching and improving the trail network around Steamboat Springs funded by the 2A Accommodations Tax. The Forest Service has completed their Environmental Assessment for the next phase of the project and have presented a draft plan that would include 50+ miles of new trails around Steamboat\, mainly in the Rabbit Ears vicinity. It is crucial to show support for this project by submitting positive\, constructive public comment before the deadline of 11/22. You can view our official RCR response to the updated plans AND access the U.S. Forest Service main project page (where you can submit a comment) at the links below! \nhttps://routtcountyriders.org/mad-rabbit-ea-release-rcr-response/ \nhttps://cara.fs2c.usda.gov/Public//CommentInput?Project=50917

SUMMARY:Ride the Cog - Hayden Gravel Ride
DESCRIPTION:Ride the Cog highlights the history and legacy of Hayden and West Routt County.  Although ‘gravel grinders’ are currently a big trend for cyclists\, West Routt has been gravel grinding for over a century\, thanks to early Hayden pioneers and cycling enthusiasts Ferry Carpenter and Ernest Walker in the early 1900s.  The Cog Ride takes advantage of the Cog’s impressive climb along with the network of gravel roads surrounding Hayden. \nFerry Carpenter was known to ride his bicycle to commute to his law office back in the early 1900s.  “The Gravel Grinder”\, is the same bicycle route Ferry used in 1913 and his descendants\, the Zars family\, still continue that legacy while commuting to the homestead today. \nRide the Cog has proven to be a colorful gathering for every level and age of bicycle enthusiast. From vintage models\, single speeds\, and tandems to fat bikes and high-end racing setups\, you see it all. \nThe ride has several options including: \n\n25 mile fun “breezer” south of town on gently rolling hills.\n31 mile scenic ‘Gravel Grinder’  north on the Cog that starts with a challenging ride on pavement up the Cog then circles west on gravel roads around Elkhead Reservoir.\n27 mile ‘Mud Route’\, almost entirely on gravel and dirt\, starts with a spectacular climb up the Middle Cog then heads along remote backcountry routes including the homestead of Ferry Carpenter.\n43 mile ‘Combined Ride’ which features the best of both routes.  Starts at 10am\n85 mile “ULTIMATE” – New this year for those who want a challenge that showcases the best of West Routt County!\n\nDon’t miss this exciting event! \nFollow on Instagram: @ridethecog \nFacebook: @ridethecog

Volunteers will gather at Dry Lake at 8:00 AM to shuttle + ride up to the Soda Mountain Trailhead near Summit Lake. The road is a rough and you will need a high clearance AWD or 4WD vehicle if driving to the trailhead. \nMost work will occur within an out-and-back hike from this trailhead. Please bring a backpack with PLENTY of water for the day\, extra snacks (we will provide some from Honey Stinger and Bar-U-Eat)\, sunscreen & bug spray\, and rain layers! Wear long sleeves + pants that you don’t mind getting filthy\, and closed-toe substantial shoes. \nWe will feed you lunch donated by Yampa Sandwich Company and bring cold drinks for the end of the day. \nWork is listed 8:00AM-230PM but volunteers who need to leave early can do so by transporting themselves up to the top trailhead or arranging for another type of shuttle to the worksite. \nPlease SIGN UP IN ADVANCE and complete the waiver as prompted upon finishing the form fields.
