The community has voiced its support of the Steamboat Springs Trails Alliance plan! On November 5, 2013 Amendment 2A was voted in overwhelmingly, allowing trails to receive funding from the Accommodations Tax for the next 10 years! Read about it here. Great things are in store for Steamboat trail users in the future!
The Steamboat Springs Trails Alliance is a partnership between Routt County Riders, an International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Chapter, the Steamboat Springs Bike Town USA Initiative, Yampatika, and the Steamboat Springs Running Series. Our vision for Steamboat Springs is to create the most accessible and progressive trail system in Colorado. The desired result is to garner a Gold Level Ride Center designation from IMBA, a Platinum Bicycling Friendly Community designation from the American League of bicyclists, and create a world-class destination for all trail users visiting or residing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Accommodations Tax: In a November 1986 Special Election Steamboat Springs voters approved an accommodations tax of 1% to be charged against all public accommodations of less than thirty days. The tax was created to support amenities that promote tourism and enhance the vitality of Steamboat Springs as a premier destination resort as well as enhancing the community identity, environmental desirability, and economic health of the community.
Master Trails Plan: The recent poll in the Steamboat Today reflects previous surveys of the community showing strong support for open space, enhanced recreation trails, and commuting opportunities. This master plan was prepared with input from the community, various land managers, and a variety of special interest trail user groups. The plan’s 46 projects in five local geographic districts include in-town connections and amenities, core trail extensions, multi-use trails, and user-specific trails which combined will create a trail network attracting new visitors and users during the summer and shoulder seasons. Colorado and Steamboat Springs specifically offer scenery and outdoor potential that few states and towns can offer. With the wide, rolling Yampa Valley and millions of acres of public lands, the canvas is set here for recreation. With the renewed vision and commitment in this plan, Steamboat can become the most accessible, progressive and connected trails system in the region and nation. Whatever your outdoor pleasure, but especially if its cycling – the Steamboat Springs Trails Alliance will help the community create the ultimate outdoor recreation adventure.
