Local Area Rides

The Steamboat Springs area offers a great variety of road rides with options that range from gentle cruising along the floor of the Yampa Valley to serious alpine challenges like climbing up Rabbit Ears Pass or Gore Pass. 

Routt  County Riders continues to work for improved roads within the County and, through the "Stop the Brutal Chip 'n Seal" campaign, was instrumental in changing road-maintenance standards to provide for smoother rolling surfaces. 

Continued dialogue between County government and the cycling community through RCR led to the formation of an advisory committee in 2009 to focus on multi-modal improvements thoughout the area.  This group will continue to work on:

• new road standards to accomodate multi-modal uses that consider cyclists' needs -bike lanes or wider, paved shoulders.
• designation of cyling routes throughout the County.
• education campaigns to improve road safety.
• funding options for road improvements.
